Our Snowboard Coaches

Snowboard Program Director, Head Coach

Nick started teaching snowboarding in 2002 at the Blue Hills Ski Area in Canton, MA. Starting in 2004, he began coaching high-level riders on the weekends, became a trainer for instructors, and helped develop the first freestyle program at Blue Hills. During this time, he also competed in local rail jams/grass roots contests, and was involved in the Boston area street snowboarding scene.

In 2006, Nick began attending UMass Amherst where he studied psychology with a focus in neuroscience. Throughout college, he continued to coach, compete, film, and ride. However, after school, he went into corporate America and subsequently ended up taking 5 years off from snowboarding. Although he saw success in sales and marketing (climbing the ladder into numerous management positions/moving around the country), Nick always felt as if something was missing. By 2016, he returned to New England, stepped back on a snowboard, and instantly fell back in love. In 2019, he began teaching/coaching again at Stratton/SWSC with Dave Redden, and also did work for the USASA Southern Vermont Series. In 2021, Dave brought Nick with him to MSA.

Nick currently has an AASI Level 2, AASI Freestyle 2, USASA Level 100, and is a USASA C Level judge. In the summer, Nick does work as a web developer (look him up here) and runs skate and snow camps for MSA.

Nick Falbo

Snowboard Coach

Jake started snowboarding at the age of 10 back in 2010 at Wachusett Mountain ski area. As a nearby local he skyrocketed his time on hill thanks to the lights on Wachusett, and he took no time at all to start learning the ways of freestyle park riding.  Jake started instructing snowboarders at 14 years old through a volunteer position at Wachusett which later became his part time job.  In 2017 Jake continued working at Wachusett but as a park digger, which gave him time and opportunities to practice his freestyle coaching with anybody and everybody who wanted to listen, all the while riding Carinthia parks on weekends.  After high school in 2019, he worked as an experienced machinist thanks to his tech school, but he couldn’t stand the time away from the mountain.  In 2022 he restarted his instructing career, working full time at Wachusett Mountain ski school.  Jake is now coaching here at Vermont Academy and currently completing his USASA Snowboarding Level 100 training/exams.
